The conversation about technology and our generation seems to be gaining significant momentum. This was particularly true when,”Look Up”, a spoken word film for our online generation went viral earlier this year:
Now, the conversation has spiraled into even more profound debates and concerns – some even regarding this generation’s obsession with technology, and in particular, smartphones, as an “Addiciton.”
Well, atleast the creators of this new App (oh the irony) thought so – Moment. Moment is “an iOS app that automatically tracks how much you use your phone each day. If you’re using your phone too much, you can set daily limits on yourself and be notified when you go over. You can also set up occasional nudges as gentle taps on your shoulder saying “Hey, you’re halfway to your daily limit already and it’s only 11 AM.” Check out what this Op-ed by Mic had to say: Are You Addicted to Your Smartphone? You Need to Download This App Right Now
Have we really reached this stage? Are we all guilty of this “addicition.” Do we really need an “intervention”?
Well if you’re submerged in those “oh I just have to respond to that snapchat”, or “hey let me scroll down my instagram newsfeed for the 100th time today” or “I can totally tweet about my gym time [before I actually get to the gym]” – Moment might be a good place to start.
